An Experience With Blue

So much work and so little time

Dvar and I have been vigorously working on making a prototype available before the new year. I have been mainly working on the physics portion (rigid body, collision, etc) but I’m not too advanced in this area which has slowed me down quite a lot. I hope to get a great portion of the physics done before the middle of November which doesn’t seem very likely but hopefully it’ll get done with the power of lulz. But even then, it would take me a whole year for me to design a physics engine that I’m barely satisfied with. There is a lot in the process of each design aspect in a full engine which is why some of the greatest engines are incredibly well handled since over 20 people will work on it. Dvar has been modeling intensely as well. I feel that the art/models will be done before I’m even done with my engine! So far, he has a base character model down, a really beautiful building which is in my last post, and now he’s working on the terrain. Here are some pics of the terrain which isn’t finished yet. There still needs to be many things added and it will just make everything look that much better.

Blue where have you been!

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated anything on the blog, but I just haven’t been in the mood to post anything. Development is getting a lot more deeper and is getting a lot more complicated as we go in so it definitely is time consuming. As we approach the next stages of development, it’s a whole ‘nother load that gets put onto our backs. Dvar has been working on modeling these past weeks and everything looks just wonderful. We’ve been doing a lot of gaming to get inspiration for our own game so we decided our old approach was too generic. We moved it to a whole new concept and yet it still fulfills our previous goals which is good news for us. So without further a do.. Here are some new pictures and the new concept idea. (This time it’s view-able online)

Progress and pictures…

Dvar and I have been working extremely long this past week. He’s been doing a lot of the models and they are looking wonderful so far. I’ve also been working on the core physics and model/camera placement and it’s coming together. I can honestly say at this pace, we can definitely have a simple alpha version released by the end of the year. Seems like a long way from now, but we have so much that needs to be done. In my last post I talked about a little idea that would involve the community a lot more, and the idea behind it was that I am making a custom modular editor for others to use. There will be pre-made models and textures included in the editor but the player can also add his own models and objects to the editor to create their own unique map. This editor will be available in the full release of the game to all players. They will be able to upload their maps to our databases for others to see as well. Now I’m sure you’re still wondering what the game is about and thankfully, we are confident in releasing our idea to you guys. It’s a downloadable PDF file from mediafire. Also, here’s some pictures of the models :)

So much chatting, not enough programming!

I haven’t done any work on the game this week besides talk about the development process with Dvarvaro and our road to our finished product. The concept has changed drastically and since the change, the community can now be more involved with actually developing the title as well. You’ll understand the previous sentence in the upcoming updates and what I mean by it. But to give you a little idea, check out this video :)

A lot.. Small… You get the point…

I have done A LOT of coding these past few days and I am EXHAUSTED. I haven’t done much that is NOTICEABLE, but it’s mostly lighting, shading, and shadowing kind of work. I can tell ya, HLSL sucks hard when it comes to coding with it. I have a difficult time understanding a lot of the syntax (and Visual C# doesn’t highlight syntax’s in HLSL, it looks more like a text file then actual code.) but it’s a new experience so I’m slightly enjoying it. But in other important news, I have assembled a small team to help with the game :) I have a writer, modeler, and texture artist. We are slowly but surely making our way to finishing the game :D Go us! Hm, I should think about making a name for my little rug-rats :3 Until then, it’s time to relax for the next few days and catch up on some Netflix seasons. Specifically, (Prison Break, White Collar, and The Walking Dead) I recommend everyone to watch these shows :)

“Help not wanted!” - Wait…

I have been getting a lot of requests to release the information regarding the concept of the title I am working on but…. I can’t JUST yet. I want to get some ground on where I am heading for this because my views on the concept is still changing. I have many good friends who are helping with the design process of the title, but I need much more than what they can offer. If anyone wants to help or just wants to ask questions, you guys can send me a message to my email bluephaser@hotmail.com.

P.S. - Follow me on twitter :) https://twitter.com/Blue_Phase

Here is just some progress that I have done with the engine. I have made the matrix itself, the camera, and model render. There are a few things I need to fix with these things such as the fact that the camera allows me to flipside things if I move the mouse in a weird angle but that should be fixed sometime tomorrow. Right now I need to catch up on some sleep :) Also, people have asked me to detail what the game will be about, but I can’t release that information JUST yet. I’ll upload a .pdf file (about 5 pages) that gives some detailed information on our idea in a few days I suppose. I have shown it to a few people already and they seem to really like the idea so I do plan on sticking with it :)

What? Who are you? A new beginning you say?

What? Who am I you say? Oh, just no one in particular. I am just the everyday game developer that loves sitting at home looking through thousands of lines of code and adding more lines of code to add new content which will eventually break causing me to repeat the same steps. Some people call me dumb for doing what I do, but I still love doing it anyways. I find that the process is better than the outcome since the outcome depends on the process. Friends call me Chris, gamers call me BluePhase (or sometimes just Blue), but I don’t care what you call me. I am just an independent game developer that has worked for many parts of the gaming industry and just wanted to take a break from it all, and develop a few titles of my own without the huge paperwork and contracts required by many large companies. I and very close friend of mine who goes by the name Dvarvaro on the interwebz (real name is hidden for his own protection) have teamed up together to work on some game titles that come from what we think games should be like. We are young-ins 24-30 years of age and have fresh ideas that we think our players will enjoy to play. Dvarvaro and I have recently (prior to the last week of may) have fleshed out a concept that we feel is fit enough to proceed to expand some new fresh ideas and thoughts that will eventually thrive to become a well developed title. We have great expectations for where the concept is heading and hope the best of luck to our fine establishment :) Who knows, maybe if this title is a success, we might just rent an office and hire a few people to help with our next title. Maybe then will we get invited to some exclusive parties. More information on our title will be released in the upcoming week, but for right now, I should really figure out how to start. We don’t want other people taking our ideas just yet ya know :3 Cheers to a fresh beginning!
